The breed originated in Newfoundland. Every breed has a Standard. The Canadian Standard states that an adult dog height is 28 inches and an adult bitch height is 26 inches. The average weight for adult dog is 150lbs and the average weight for adult bitches is 120lbs. The breed is known for their gentleness and often referred to as “Gentle Giants”. They have a water resistant double coat. There are only two acceptable colours of the breed in Canada and they are Black (with white markings on chest, toes and/or tip of tail) and Landseer, which is white with black markings.
